Idaho winning streak at nine as regular season winds down

Left-winger Nate Stanley of Boise scored four goals and had six assists to help lead the Idaho Junior Steelheads to a three game sweep over the Bakersfield Junior Condors in California last weekend.

With nine games left in regular season play, the Junior Steelheads (32-4-0-1) have won the last nine games in a row and remain in first place in the Western Division of the Western States Hockey League.

IDAHO 5, BAKERSFIELD 1

Idaho skated to an early 2-0 lead with goals scored by David Fegler and Stanley in the first period.

Junior Steelheads forward Ryan Maul added a third goal assisted by Matt Sanford and Stanley before the Condors scored on a power play in the second period.

Skyler McKnight scored mid-way through the third period and Maul got his second goal of the night to cap an Idaho victory, 5-1, for game one of the series at Bakersfield.

IDAHO 12, BAKERSFIELD 1

Idaho’s Austin Parle scored a hat trick and goalie Brad Atkinson stopped 19-of-20 shots as Idaho crushed Bakersfield, 12-1, on Saturday.

Idaho scored four times in the first period with two goals from Stephen Rock and a goal each from Sanford and Ryan Niederkorn.

Bakersfield scored a power play goal in the first period, but it was the last time Idaho would let the Condors reach the back of the net.

Rock, Stanley and Sanford finished the night with two goals each. Fegler and McKnight scored for Idaho.

IDAHO 7, BAKERSFIELD 1

A goal scored by defenseman Andrew Huckleby and assisted by Stanley put the Junior Steelheads on the board first.

Left-winger Navarone Copley added a second goal, assisted by Fegler and Sanford as Idaho jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. Bakersfield’s lone goal came early in the second period.

Huckleby, Rock, Ivo Crhak and Fegler also scored in the second period as Idaho led, 6-1.

Stanley, assisted by Rock, scored the final goal for the 7-1 win and a 3-0 series sweep over the Condors.

Idaho faces off against the Long Beach Bombers at Lakewood, Calif., this weekend.

The Junior Steelheads return to Idaho to play rival Fresno Monsters at Manchester Ice and Event Centre Feb. 18-19 and at Qwest Arena in Boise, Feb. 20.
